WANT TO STOP SMOKING ? TRY THIS!
By Phil L
I dont know about you but I smoked about 30 fags a day and for several years now I've been wanting to stop smoking altogether. I've been to the 'Stop Smoking Clinic' at our local GP's twice during that time and both times theyve put me on a course of nicotine patches, which by the way, cost a fortune and bring me out in a rash. I dont know if youve ever been to one of these clinics, but they monitor you once a week, you have to blow into a breathalyzer type machine and it monitors how much smoke you have in your lungs. As I say I've done this twice now and both times I've failed to stop smoking. I think that this is because first of all I have about as much will power as a wet cabbage and secondly, how the hell am I going to go from smoking 30 a day to smoking none, just like that when I'm fairly heavily medicated and have no will power ? Its an impossible task and yet this is the only method the NHS has to offer cold turkey, theyre advertising on the telly that it's easier to stop with NHS help. No it's not, it's terrible, its geared purely for people with will power, but what about those of us who are medicated and have little or no will power, is there anything on offer to help us to stop smoking ? No there is not, so anyway I thought I'd try a different way, I thought I'd stop smoking 'between fags', that is, that I'd have one fag every hour. I thought I could stop smoking for an hour at a time with very little will power involved. So thats what I did, and I did that for 2 weeks. Then I upped the time so that I smoked a fag every hour and a half and seeing as I'm home all day everyday, it was fairly easy to watch the clock and countdown from one fag to the next. so I smoked a fag every hour and a half for 2 weeks, then I upped the time to having a fag every two hours for 2 weeks and so on and so forth.
Increasing the time, I didnt smoke by half an hour every two weeks until I was smoking a fag every six hours, which I did for two weeks. Then I bought some nicotine lozenges and sucked one every six hours instead of smoking a fag and I did that for a week and then it was easy to stop sucking the lozenges altogether and not have any nicotine at all in my system.
This was how I stopped smoking and I found it fairly easy. I've written out the programme I used so anyone wanting to stop can try this method, you dont need hardly any will power to do this, but you do need to be determined to stick to the time scales and watch the clock from one fag to the next.
Programme.......
Smoke one fag every hour on the hour for two weeks.
Smoke one fag every hour and a half for two weeks.
Smoke one fag every two hours for two weeks.
Smoke one fag every two and a half hours for two weeks.
Smoke one fag every three hours for two weeks.
Smoke one fag every three and a half hours for two weeks.
Smoke one fag every four hours for two weeks.
Smoke one fag every four and a half hours for two weeks.
Smoke one fag every five hours for two weeks.
Smoke one fag every five and a half hours for two weeks.
Smoke one fag every six hours for two weeks.
Suck a nicotine lozenge every six hours for one week.
Altogether, this will spread the effort and willpower required to stop smoking over a period of 23 weeks, it is a very gentle, slow method of stop smoking, but you must stick to the times between fags. I found this method of nicotine reduction, much easier and more suited to my lack of will power than the drastic, sudden nicotine replacement method used by the NHS
It doesn't cost anything only the price of a packet of nicotine lozenges, so if you want to stop smoking, but dont fancy stopping altogether with nicotine patches, give this method a try, it worked for me.
