The Courage of a Lion.

Sadly, even today mental illness is seen as a difficult topic to understand and difficult to know how to offer comfort and support. Sue Holt is a Christian who has spent many years struggling with mental distress alongside that she also developed a faith in Jesus Christ that at times gave her the strength to literally just get up out of bed and face the day ahead.

Sue believes that her life is a testimony to all of those that struggle with mental distress and may be an answer for those who wish to offer support.

Sue Has wrote about some aspects of her life in "Poems of Survival", the book is a poetry book but Sue will be the first to admit it is words about life first and poetry second.

Words became important to Sue in her attempts to discuss with those around her, her mental distress and the ramifications they were having upon her life. She felt medicalised, classified and even from time to time demonized.

Writing became important to Sue as she wrote she realised others could question, they could argue, but they couldn't delete, her words had been formalized. Her experience was being recognised, more importantly so was she, both by herself and those around her.

You may not "enjoy" "Poems of Survival" in the real sense of the word, but you may find that you shed a tear and become a witness to the amazing ability of Sue Holt to persevere against circumstances some of us would have folded under long ago.

I hope this book will encourage you in your own struggles.
